Chatham County is reporting the highest number of COVID-19 cases per capita in North Carolina right now. Yikes.
And requests for cloth face coverings through our Masks for Many partnership project went up by 2,000% in the last week. Yep, that’s right.
So far, we’ve filled requests for vulnerable local businesses like cleaning services, for families of essential workers, and for nonprofits like CORA, Communities in Schools, and Chatham Trades.
And now, Chatham County Schools, Hispanic Liaison, and the local chapter of the NAACP have requested a large number of face coverings for Chatham families who are struggling in so many ways.
Masks for Many has requests for a total of 1,440 face coverings for vital workers and their families in Chatham County. And that may grow.
Masks for Many is the brainchild of theater artist and Chatham resident Mike Wiley. He put together this beautiful, short video with his sons, and folks across a multitude of states have given to this effort for Chatham County out of love and respect for Mike and his work. We’ve raised $4,890 of our original $10,000 goal–largely from folks in towns and states outside Chatham County.
Now, we’re starting to see more donations from Chatham coming in. Can you be one of those?
Are you a person who doesn’t sew (or doesn’t have time to sew), but does have $10 to give right now? If so, you can make a mask.
Give us your $10, and we’ll pay for a furloughed artist’s materials + a tiny stipend, and they’ll make a mask for Chatham County Schools or the NAACP to give to someone who really needs it.
By the transitive property of facecoverings, YOU will have made a mask (and helped an artist in need at the same time).
Limitations create possibility. Create possibility with us today, because time is of the essence.
